The medium is prepared by substituting teepol with sodium lauryl sulphate that inhibits gram positive bacteria. Lactose is the source of fermentable carbohydrate. Phenol red serves as an indicator. Escherichia coli grows luxuriantly at 440C and is identified as yellow coloured colony on the membrane.
