Streptococcus agalactiae Selective HiVegâ„¢ Agar Base is recommended for selective isolation of Streptococcus agalactiae from dairy products. Thallous sulphate and crystal violet are inhibitory agents in the medium, inhibiting the contaminating flora. S. agalactiae exhibits beta haemolytic reaction.S. agalactiae forms dove-blue coloured smooth colonies surrounded by zones of haemolysis. Further identification by using biochemical and serological methods but primarily by using CAMP test is required. This medium is prepared by replacing animal peptones with vegetable defined peptones to avoid BSE/TSE/GMO risk.
