Phenol Red Broth Base w/ Meat Extract (Revised as Phenol Red Broth Base w/ HM Peptone) 100G

Phenol Red Broth Base w/ Meat extract is a highly nutritive basal medium which can be used to study fermentation of carbohydrates. It is a complete medium without added carbohydrates. The carbohydrate of choice can be added for determination of fermentation reactions of pure cultures of microorganisms. It can also be used as a negative control for studying fermentation reactions which results in the production of acid and gas for the differentiation between genera and species. Positive reaction is indicated by the change in colour of medium to yellow due to acid production as indicated by phenol red, a pH indicator in the medium. Gas production is indicated by the bubbles formation and entrapped in Durhams tube.
